ATU Zone Requirements, Central Florida, New Septic Code, Septic Requirements

Areas Currently Requiring ATU’s

In the photo above, areas of Orange County, Seminole County, and Volusia County that are requiring ATU’s. More specific areas affected are Pine Hills, Ocoee, Lockhart, Apopka, Winter Garden, Lake Mary, Longwood, Sanford, Debary, Orange City, Deltona, and Deland. Requirements vary per county, we are Always happy to help you navigate this process.

Why ATU’s?

Unlike traditional septic tanks, ATUs introduce oxygen into the tank to promote the growth of bacteria that digest organic waste, resulting in higher quality treated water that is more suitable for disposal. This helps keeps Florida waterways cleaner, and promotes a more sustainable tomorrow.

Florida’s Future Relationship With ATU

Currently all new construction, and areas inside the zones listed above for repairs require an ATU system.

By 2030, the entire state of Florida will require ATU systems to be installed for new homes, and existing homes requesting a repair permit of the septic system. By 2050, all homes will be required to either switch to city sewer(if available) or upgrade system to an ATU.
All of this is based on current legislation and requirements. Certain exemptions are also in place depending on the area and your property size. All information can be subject to change by State of Florida at future times if deemed necessary.
